Light Academy :

What is CCT?

CCT (Correlated Color Temperature) is measured in Kelvin (K) and describes the color appearance of white light produced by a lamp.

  • Lower CCT (e.g., 2700K–3000K) → Warm white light

  • Higher CCT (e.g., 5000K–6500K) → Cool or daylight white light

Warm White (2700–3000K)

Color Appearance

  • Produces a soft, yellowish-white glow

  • Resembles traditional incandescent or halogen lighting

  • Mimics the natural light at sunrise or sunset

  • Feels warm, intimate, and comforting

Applications

1. Homes

  • Living Rooms: Creates a cozy atmosphere for relaxation and socializing

  • Bedrooms: Promotes calmness and helps the body prepare for sleep

  • Dining Areas: Enhances meal-time ambiance and makes food look more appealing

  • Bathrooms (optional): Adds a spa-like feel (though sometimes neutral white is preferred)

2. Hotels

  • Guest Rooms: Enhances comfort and relaxation for guests

  • Lobbies: Gives a welcoming and luxurious first impression

  • Lounges & Bars: Supports a relaxed, premium atmosphere

3. Restaurants

  • Dining Rooms: Warm white light flatters both people and food

  • Romantic Settings: Ideal for creating intimate or upscale dining environments

  • Ambient Lighting: Often used in pendant lights, chandeliers, and wall sconces

Limitations / Where Not Ideal

  • Not ideal for task-intensive areas (e.g., offices, workstations, kitchens) due to lower visual contrast

  • May feel too dim or yellowish for tasks requiring high attention to detail

  • Not suitable where crisp, cool lighting is needed for focus or alertness

CCT vs CRI (Color Rendering Index)

  • CCT tells you the color of the light.

  • CRI tells you how accurately the light renders other colors compared to natural light.

Example: Two lights can both be 5000K, but one might make colors appear more vibrant (higher CRI) than the other.

Light Sources That Produce Warm White Light
